Endometriosis Excision Surgery
Minimally Invasive Surgery
Endometriosis Treatments
Thanks to innovations in healthcare and technology we offer minimally invasive surgical treatment options as well as less invasive treatments for endometriosis symptoms.
Board-Certified Gynecologist
As a board-certified gynecologist who was fellowship-trained in minimally invasive endometriosis surgery at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Haverland is able to perform gynecologic surgery using laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques.
This can lead to better patient outcomes with smaller incisions, less discomfort, shorter recovery times, and a lower risk of complications when compared to more invasive approaches of the past. Additionally, the cameras for the Di Vinci robots allow for easier identification of subtle endometriosis disease and meticulous dissection compared to open techniques.
Endometriosis specifically can lead to more complex surgeries. Endometriosis may implant on the bowels, bladder, nerves or even diaphragm. Dr. Haverland has experience removing endometriosis in these areas with wide margins.
She also has a multi-disciplinary team she can call in to assist with surgery if needed including urology and colorectal surgery. Complete excision of abnormal tissues can restore normal anatomy, preserve organs and has a low recurrence rate with early-stage disease.
If surgery is recommended, endometriosis excision is considered the gold standard of treatment. During this procedure, endometrial lesions growing outside of your uterus are surgically removed.
These areas can be difficult to identify and sometimes require experienced surgeons to identify the more atypical lesions. Ultimately all endometriosis is cut out (or excised) and sent to pathology for confirmation.
By removing all the disease, rather than burning the surface (ablation), we have better chances of endometriosis not recurring and symptoms improving. Studies also show improved fertility rates both with natural conception as well as with IVF following endometriosis excision surgery.

Physical Therapy
Pelvic floor physical therapy is imperative to the multi-disciplinary approach to endometriosis treatment. Pelvic floor dysfunction is present in the majority of women with pelvic pain which affects bowel, blader and sexual functions. Dr. Haverland and her team will work to find a physical therapist that is close to your home and that has experience with hypertonia, pelvic floor tension and other secondary effects from pelvic pain.

Nutrition
Diet and nutrition are paramount to a holistic approach to decreasing whole body inflammation. Each person may react to a variety of foods differently. Working on personalized plans to optimize your gut health and avoid inflammatory foods can significantly improve your overall well-being and decrease pain. Autoimmune protocol is an elimination diet that may also be helpful to reduce symptoms. Reducing foods that are poorly absorbed in the gut may help reduce digestive discomfort.
